This is an exceptional Baldwin concert grand with the expansive tonal and dynamic range required for large venues and musical ensembles -- including piano concertos with full orchestra. The action is highly responsive and even, giving the player full control over timbre and volume. This model was one of the most popular grands in concert halls throughout America including the Boston Symphony Orchestra's Tanglewood Music Festival in Lenox, MA until the 1990s. Many of the greatest pianists, conductors, singers and composers of the post-WW2 era had Baldwin grands as their personal pianos. Some examples: Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Phyllis Curtin, and Dave Brubeck. Brubeck had two Baldwin concert grands in his home studio in Wilton, CT. We serviced both pianos for thirty years. The one we are selling here was only lightly used for most of its life in the home studio of opera singers. For 8 months of 2022 (during the pandemic) it was rented by a classical concert pianist for streaming performances from her studio. Upon its return in Sept. 2022 we installed new hammers and shanks, plus full regulation and fine voicing for concert use. Otherwise it is all original, including the Renner action used by Baldwin during that era. The soundboard, strings, bridges, pin block, dampers, keytops, etc. are excellent. The case has minor blemishes reflecting its age. But they are only visible up close. It is far superior to Yamaha 9' grands of similar age and condition and compares well with fine, used Steinway 9' grands costing much more. There is a lot of musical value for the money in this piano. The price includes ground floor delivery within 50 miles, 2-tank climate control system, artists bench, and one on-site tuning. It may be played and compared with other fine grand pianos at the Flynn Pianos workshop showroom in Great Barrington, MA.
